Periodontics
Periodontics is a dental specialty that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases that affect the gums and supporting structures of the teeth, including the bone and ligaments that hold the teeth in place.
Periodontal diseases are caused by the buildup of bacteria and plaque on the teeth and gums, which can lead to inflammation and infection. Common signs of periodontal disease include bleeding gums, bad breath, loose teeth, and gum recession.De-pigmentation: Depigmentation is a dental procedure that is used to remove or reduce dark or discolored patches of gum tissue in the mouth. These dark patches, known as gingival hyperpigmentation, can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, smoking, certain medications, and certain medical conditions. During a depigmentation procedure, a dentist or periodontist will use a laser or scalpel to remove the pigmented layer of gum tissue, revealing the lighter, natural color of the gums underneath.
